Royal Canadian Legion Sarnia branch 62 are hosting a dinner on October 26, 2024. This will be a free event for all veterans and your ticket can be picked up by either emailing poppy@sarnialegion.ca or talking to the staff at the bar on the lower level.

Tickets are available for purchase at $50 each and they be purchased online at sarnialegion.ca or at the bar in the lower level.

This year we especially would like to honour our Afghanistan veterans and their families. Our keynote  speaker is Colonel Tim Marcella.

 

Col Tim Marcella joined the Canadian Forces in 1985 as a Reserve Army Logistician while attending the University of Western Ontario. Upon graduation he transferred to the Regular Force in 1988. As a junior officer he was employed in a number of positions within 1 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group in Calgary including 1 Service Battalion Decontamination Platoon Commander, Supply Company Second-in-Command, and Quartermaster 1st Battalion Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry. After attendance on the Army Operations Course and promotion to the rank of Major.

In 1996 he was employed as Officer Commanding Supply Company 2 Service Battalion in Petawawa, staff officer in the Allied Command Europe Rapid Reaction Corps Headquarters in Germany, and as a staff officer in J4 Logistics in NDHQ. After completing Canadian Forces Command and Staff College and promotion to LCpl in 2005, he was employed as the G4 Land Forces Central Area HQ in Toronto and subsequently served as the J4 Canadian Expeditionary Forces Headquarters in Ottawa from 2007-2009. He was then deployed as the Commanding Officer National Support Element Task Force 1-10 in Kandahar Afghanistan and was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal for his service.

His other operational experience includes deployments to the Golan Heights as a Supply Platoon Commander, to Bosnia as a Supply and Transport Company Commander, and to Kosovo as a staff officer in a NATO Corps Headquarters. In 2011-2012, he attended the United States National Defense University in Washington D.C. where he completed a Master of Science in National Resource Strategy and was designated as a Distinguished Graduate.

Upon return to Canada he was posted to the Canadian Army Command and Staff College where he served as the Combat Service Support Directing Staff and subsequently as the Dean from 2013 – 2017. He was promoted to the rank of Colonel in 2017 and posted to 1 st Canadian Division Headquarters in Kingston where he was employed as Chief of Staff Support and deployed to NATO Mission Iraq as Chief Plans and he was awarded the NATO Meritorious Service Medal for his service. Col Marcella transferred to the Primary Reserves Aug 2021 and assumed the role of Deputy Chief of Staff Readiness at 1 st Canadian Division Headquarters.

Col Marcella is married to Valerie Marcella and has two daughters, Avery age 21 and Isla age 17.
